RENEW MY CHURCH UPDATE FOR SOUTH SHORE
As of November 18, 2019
On Wednesday, November 6, 2019, the last meeting for the South Shore Parish Grouping was held. The purpose of this final meeting was to define and refine the presentation that our grouping will make to the Archdiocese. More than 90 minutes was spent refining the language and ideas to be presented.
The final proposal would have the parishes of South Shore become ONE PARISH with ONE CHURCH! Other considerations were included that would propose utilizing the “empty” churches for Retreat Centers, Entrepreneurial endeavors and Community Land Trust possibilities (our version of a Catholic Workers House or something similar). I will make a copy of this information available, as soon as we are provided a “finished” copy by our Renew My Church coordinator.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the group was asked to try to come to a consensus about whether to use St. Philip Neri or Our Lady of Peace as the “Parish Church”. After an additional 20 minutes of robust discussion, it was apparent that a consensus would not be reached. As a result, the decision will now be left to the Archdiocesan Executive Committee who will meet in mid-December.
While St. Bride is not destined to be “the Parish Church” of South Shore, there is some hope that she will remain active as a Spirituality Center or one of the above-mentioned entrepreneurial endeavors. The possibility of remaining an active presence in South Shore is still a possibility for us.
Please continue your prayers as we head into the last phase of this process. St. Bride, pray for us!
