The Mother of Elfriede Wedam of St. Bride

Christine Wedam (née Karnel) was born in Lusnizza di Bagno, Italy on April 18, 1926, and died at home in La Valle on October 11, 2014.  She was the ninth of ten children born to a farming family.  As German-speakers, the family was patriated to Austria in 1939. She married her childhood sweetheart, Willibald, in 1949.  She and her husband, known to all as Willie, immigrated to the United States in 1953 from Austria with their two oldest children, Elfriede (m. the late Robert Lammers) and Christine (m. José Rosario).  Two more children, Robert (m. Sharon Selldin) and Elisabeth (m. Sterling Scott) were born in the U.S.  The family settled in the Chicago area where Willie’s aunt, Maria Schumi, lived with her family.  While Willie pursued his career in tool and die, Christine raised her children and helped in the family business, Decimal Die and Engineering Co. until they retired in 1988. They moved full time to La Valle where they built their retirement home in the Austrian chalet style and Christine attended her second beloved, her garden.  In addition to her devoted husband and four children, Christine will be greatly missed by her seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  Visitation will be held at Farber Funeral Home, 2000 Viking Drive, Reedsburg, WI on Thursday, October 16, from 3:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held at Advent Christian Church in La Valle on Friday, October 17, with open casket visitation at 10:00 am, and services to begin at 11 am, officiated by Rev. Richard Johnson.  Memorial donations may be sent to the WHFM of Advent Christian Church, 200 Lavalle Street, La Valle, WI  53941.
